Each Mind Matters
Each Mind Matters is California’s Mental Health Movement. We are millions of individuals and thousands of organizations working to advance mental health. The mental health movement certainly didn’t start with us, but Each Mind Matters was created to unite all of us who share a vision of improved mental health and equality.
Every day, millions of people face stigma related to mental health because they or their loved ones are facing a challenge. Many of these people feel isolated and alone, going years before receiving any help. Our goal is to amplify the voices of all people who want to put an end to this stigma, creating a community where everyone feels comfortable reaching out for the support they deserve.
Who Created Each Mind Matters?
CalMHSA and Prop. 63
The California Mental Health Services Authority (CalMHSA) is an organization of county governments working to improve mental health outcomes for individuals, families and communities. Prevention and early intervention (PEI) initiatives implemented by CalMHSA – and collected under the banner of Each Mind Matters: California’s Mental Health Movement – include Stigma and Discrimination Reduction, Suicide Prevention and Student Mental Health, all of which are funded through the voter-approved Mental Health Services Act (Prop. 63). In November 2004 California voters passed Proposition 63, the Mental Health Services Act (MHSA). Prop. 63 provided the funding and framework needed to transform the community mental health system from a crisis-driven system to one focused on prevention and wellness and to expand services to reach previously underserved populations and all of California’s diverse communities. Specifically, the MHSA provides funding for community services and supports prevention and early intervention (PEI), housing, innovations, capital facilities, technology and workforce investment and training. The prevention and early intervention materials on this website were funded by California counties through the Mental Health Services Act.
